The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it plans to arraign no fewer than 100 Internet fraud suspects arrested in various locations across Enugu State after the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
The EFCC, in a statement shared on its Facebook on Wednesday, disclosed that the suspects were arrested in a sting operation carried out by its operatives on Wednesday.
The statement added that the arrest followed actionable intelligence received by the commission about the activities of the suspects.
It added that exhibits such as mobile phones, laptops, and cars were recovered from the suspects.
The statement read in part, “Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC have arrested 100 (One Hundred) suspected internet fraudsters at different locations of Enugu State.
“The suspects were arrested in early morning sting operations on Wednesday, May 5, 2024, following actionable intelligence about suspected activities of an organised syndicate of internet fraudsters operating along Ibagwa-Nike and other locations in the Enugu metropolis.
“Items recovered from them include three exotic cars, mobile phones, and laptops.”
The EFCC concluded that the suspects would be arraigned upon the conclusion of an ongoing investigation.
“The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations,” the statement concluded.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reported on May 10 that no fewer than 29 persons arrested by the EFCC would face trial if found guilty of their involvement in Internet fraud and related offences.
According to the anti-graft agency, the suspects were arrested by its operatives in the FCT.
The agency added that their arrest followed an intelligence report it received about the activities of the suspects.
