The Imo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has seized 2,637 kilograms of hard drugs in Imo state between June 2023 and June 2024.

The illicit drugs seized include Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp), cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, otherwise called mkpurummiri, tramadol and rephynol among others.

Briefing journalists in Owerri on Friday, the Imo State NDLEA Narcotics Commander, Alhaji Saeed Abdullahi, said 192 suspects were arrested, adding that 171 out of them are males while 21 are females.

He further disclosed that a greater portion of the total drugs seized was mainly Indian hemp, adding that 40 drug users were rehabilitated, but 30 of them were convicted.

Commending the stakeholders for the above breakthroughs, he stated that the state command would not have achieved the above feat without their cooperation.

He also appreciated the support from the agency’s national headquarters, Abuja, Imo state Government and the media, assuring that the command would continue to explore all avenues to reduce drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the state.
