Participants at the 12th Annual North Central Zonal Conference of the Social Studies and Civic Educators’ Association of Nigeria (SOSCEAN), have urged the Federal and State Governments to prioritize the development of Social Studies and Civic Education curricula that reflect the needs of the 21st century.
This was part of the highlights of the communique issued at the Zonal conference of SOSCEAN held at the FCT College of Education, Zuba, Abuja early last month.
The Communique jointly signed by the Conference LOC Chairman, Dr. Agnes Philip-Ogoh and Secretary of the Committee, Dr. Habib H. Babajo also stressed the need for Schools and educational institutions to provide adequate resources and support for the effective teaching and learning of Social Studies and Civic Education.
“SOSCEAN should collaborate with relevant stakeholders to promote the importance of Social Studies and Civic Education in Nigerian schools,” the Conference advised.
The conference resolved among other things to establish a zonal committee to coordinate the activities of SOSCEAN in the North Central Zone that will be inclusive of all educational levels; Organize regular workshops and seminars for educators to enhance their skills and knowledge in teaching Social Studies and Civic Education.
The association would also collaborate with other professional associations to promote the development of Social Studies and Civic Education in Nigeria.
The Conference committee then appreciated the support and participation of all delegates, resource persons, and sponsors of the 12th annual Zonal conference.
