ALARMING: Boko Haram Operatives Taking Over Forests In Plateau, House Of Reps Member Alert Nigerians

A member of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gagdi, said members of the Boko Haram sects in the Northeast have moved into forests in Plateau State.

Gagdi, the chairman of the Committee on Navy, disclosed this on Wednesday in a motion of urgent public importance he moved on the floor of the House.

In the motion, Gagdi said: “Kanam’s forest has now become a haven for bandits and Boko Haram terrorists as a result of influxes from other states that are affected by banditry and Boko Haram activities.”

He said the presence of terrorists on the plateau is fueling the insecurity in the state.

Gagdi said the recent killing of APC publicity secretary Sylvanus Namang in Pankshin LGA, shows the level of deterioration in security.

“The lifeless body of a former member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Muchen, whom we have served together, was found in Bokkos Forest in Plateau State,” he stated.

Subsequently, the House urged the Chief of Defence Staff to establish two military bases in Kanam, one each in Gun-Gagdi and Garga, respectively.

They also called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to deploy additional personnel to the affected areas in Gun-Gagdi, Garga, Pankshin and Kanke and urged the Director of the Department of State Security to conduct a security operation in the area to flush out bandits and Boko Haram members.

The motion was adopted unanimously.
