Hell was let loose today in Ekpoma as students of the Edo State government owned Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state protested against the continued dissolution of their Students Union Government, SUG.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS gathered that the students in large number lock the main entrance of the institution singing solidarity songs and disrupted academic activities in the school.
The SUG of the institution was disbanded last session when they were hell bent on protesting over the hike in tuition fees then.
And since then the affairs of the students were handled by the Dean of the students affairs a im conjunction with the caretaker committee put in place to run the SUG.
Today’s protest was also to protest the ‘sacking’ of over 200 law students of the Institution who have been re-distributed to other departments for the continuation if their studies with a caveat that they would be placed on 200 level.
This development brought out the anger of the affected students who claimed that such exercise need to have been done in their transiting to 200 level from first year and not now.
The heavy downpour that started around 11 in the morning scattered the protesting students.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, Prof. Asomwan Adagbonyin, was not around in the campus to address the aggrieved students.
All efforts to get the response of the institution proved abortive as the Public Relations Officer of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Comrade L. I. Isiraojei, neither pick his calls nor reply the sms sent to him.
