Windstorm Destroys Buildings In Three Zamfara LGs

Several buildings were destroyed after a windstorm struck three Local Government Areas in Zamfara State on Monday.

The National Emergency Management Agency, in a statement on its X.com handle on Thursday, identified the affected LGAs as Tsafe, Maradun, and Mafara.

According to NEMA, the windstorm which affected several communities in the LGAs caused buildings to collapse.

The statement noted that security operatives were also deployed to work with NEMA team due to the high insecurity in the area.

“Following a windstorm that occurred sporadically across different Local Government Areas of Zamfara State on June 3, 2024, NEMA alongside the Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency carried out a joint assessment of the affected areas.

“The windstorm affected communities in Tsafe, Maradun, and Mafara LGAs amongst others and pulled down buildings. The assessment was conducted with the heavy presence of security operatives due to the problem of insecurity,” the statement partly read.

DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reported on May 31 that no fewer than 500 houses were affected following a windstorm that ravaged the Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Five people were also reported to have sustained varying degrees of injuries in the incident.

NEMA had disclosed that no casualty was recorded in the incident.

The emergency agency added that the impact of the windstorm caused buildings to collapse, rooftops removed and walls to be broken.
