UNIBUJA Hosts 12th SOSCEAN National Annual Conference

All roads to the Permanent Site of University of Abuja, Nigeria as members of the Conference of Social Studies and Civic Educators of Nigeria, SOSCEAN, gathered for their 12th Annual National Assembly.

According to Dr D. B. Akinola, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee of the annual conference, today, Tuesday, August 13 is the arrival of delegates from across the country while the Conference is billed to end on Friday, 16th August 2024.

He added that the opening ceremony of the 12th Annual Conference of SOSCEAN holds on Wednesday 14th August 2024 in the Faculty of Education Lecture theater, University of Abuja by 10 am.

A statement jointly signed by Dr D. B. Akinola, the Chairman, Local Organizing Committee and Dr R. C. Wali-Essien, the Secretary of the LOC, Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi, the Acting Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja, Nigeria is the Chief Host while Prof. Flora O. Nkire, the Head of Department , Educational Foundations of Abia State University, Uturu is the Keynote Speaker.

The Dean, Faculty of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. H. I. Bayero, is the lead presenter while Associate Professor Sunday Mathew Dada, the Acting Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Abuja is the host. Prof. H. A. Apeh, HOD, Department of Educational Foundations is the Co-Host.

According to the statement, the theme of the 12th National Annual Conference is “Repositioning Social Studies and Civic Education for Sustainable National Development and Global Impact”.

Sub themes included”Social Studies and Civic Education in Tertiary Institutions” as well as “The Role of Technology/Artificial Intelligence AI in the teaching and learning of Social Studies and Civic Education for global impact”, among others.

The statement added that the Association would paid a courtesy visit on the Acting VC, University of Abuja, Prof Aisha Maikudi today by 9am.

The Conference earlier scheduled for August 7th 2024 was shifted 13th – 16th August, 2024 due to the concerns of the on-going protests in some states of Nigeria.
