There is heavy security presence at the palace of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, over the rumored death of the monarch.
The 87-year-old Aromolaran has been on the throne for 42 years.
The unusual increase in security presence at the palace and the lack of official updates have heightened speculation and concerns among residents and well-wishers.
The monarch attended the flag-off of the construction of the Roundabout/Brewery dual carriageway in April.
A traditional chief, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Thursday, said, “At the appropriate time, journalists will be briefed.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS however learnt that Oba Aromolaran was admitted at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Osun State till Wednesday.
Impeccable sources in the palace confirmed to DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS that the monarch passed away late on Wednesday.
A family source told our correspondent: “We are crying and mourning presently. We are not even picking calls from outsiders but I can’t ignore your own that is why.
“They are moving personal belongings of the king out of the palace as I am speaking with you.”
Another security source said: “Operatives of Nigeria Police and Department of State Service (DSS) have taken over the palace as we have also shut the gates.”
Meanwhile, reactions have begun to troop in from sons and daughters of the state and concerned citizens.
An X user, #MayorOfIjesha wrote, “Whilst we await for the official information, all fingers are crossed till further notice. Owa Obokun Adimula.”
