The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will prosecute all those found extorting money from
Innocent persons to frustrate the process of the Apo Mechanic Relocation Exercise to serve as deterrent.
The Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Mr. Felix Obuah, stated this during a meeting with representatives of the Apo Mechanic Village at the AMMC Conference Room, Zone 6, Wuse District, Abuja, Thursday.
The Coordinator expressed disappointment over allegations made by some Apo Mechanic representatives during a live broadcast on Brekete Family Programme, Human Rights Radio, where claims and counter claims were made about the enumeration and relocation processes.
He assured that the relocation exercise will go on as planned to adequately take care of the affected persons.
Obuah reminded the attendees of the commitment of the Nyesom Wike Administration to addressing their concerns; reiterating that already steps have been taken to resolve their longstanding issues.
His words: “The FCT Administration has their best interests at heart and it is working tirelessly to provide a lasting solution.”
Obuah insisted that the relocation effort was targeted at mechanics operating on the road corridors and does not apply to all members of the community.
He explained that the relocation site, which spans approximately 51,000 hectares is designated for the Apo Mechanic Village and spare parts dealers.
The Coordinator dismissed the misconceptions that the land size can only accommodate 49,000 people.
“Out of the 50,000 persons, who applied for relocation, only 10,000 were able to make the required payments, despite being given ample time to do so,” he revealed.
During the meeting, Obuah presented a prototype design for the Wasa relocation site and the design includes facilities such as automobile workshops, shops, and warehouses.
He promised that their call for subsidy to ease their financial burden, would be communicated to the Minister.
Obuah advised the leadership of the Unions to disregard rumors and misinformation;stressing that “I am committed to finding a lasting solution to your challenges and ensuring transparency throughout the process.”
The Coordinator announced that 70% of the work had been completed and urged the mechanics to remain patient and cooperative as the Council move towards finalizing the relocation plan.
