Troops Kill Over 1,000 Terrorist Leaders, Rescue 7,063 Kidnap Victims In 2024

Troops on operation across the country killed 10,937 terrorists, including over one thousand of their commanders and leaders and rescued 7,063 kidnap victims in 2024.

The troops also arrested 12,538 criminals, while 16,171 terrorists and their families surrendered.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen Edward Buba, disclosed this on Tuesday while reeling-out the military’s successes in the past year.

Some of the terrorists leaders/commanders killed during troops’ offensives in 2024, according to Gen. Buba were Dutse Mainasara Idda, Mallam Saleh Umaru, Mohammed Amadu, Chinemerem (aka Bam Bam), Jeremiah Uzuoma (aka Escoba), Tochukwu Awo (aka Ojoto) and Egwuatu, amongst others.

He said troops recovered 8,815 weapons, 228,004 ammunitions trook terrorists and other non-state actors in the past year.

The weapons seized, according to the defence spokesman, were 4,332 AK47 rifles, 1,244 locally fabricated guns, 838 dane guns, 259 pump action guns, and 2,131 assorted arms.

He said the ammunition recovered included 128,496 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 45,445 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 5,103 cartridges, and 29,176 assorted ammunitions.

Giving an update on the feats recorded in the Niger Delta region, Gen. Buba said troops recovered 56,223,002 litres of stolen crude, 9,735,836 litres of illegally refined diesel, 95,595 litres of Kerosene and 156,527 litres of petrol which worth an estimated sum over N68 billion.

He said: “Many of what was witnessed in the outgoing year, are indicative of a major defeat of the terrorist in 2024. 

“Importantly, troops in the battlefield are in high spirits, fully committed, devoted and believe in the just of the cause.

“Troops will be going the extra mile in the new year to get the job done. Troops are focussed on increasingly deliver tangible benefits of their operations for the benefits of citizens. 

“Additionally troops seek to continue to heighten collaboration with neighbouring countries and regional bodies in order to tackle the menace of terrorism.”
