****Hope Rises For Oyo Museum Face-lift
The Director General, National Commission for Museums and Monuments, NCMM, Mr. Olugbile Holloway, on Tuesday felicitated and congratulated His Imperial Majesty, Ọba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, Aláàfin of Oyo on his coronation as the paramount ruler of the ancient town recently.
The congratulatory and goodwill message to His Imperial Majesty was delivered by Mrs Oyeronke Afolayan, the Curator, National Museum, Aafin, Oyo during the Museum’s first official visit to the new Alaafin.
The Curator reiterated to the Alaafin of Oyo, the mission and vision of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments and its need especially National Museum, Aafin, Oyo which is intandem with the plans of the Paramount ruler in shaping Museum and preserving Yoruba Cultural heritage.
Similarly, the Curator in her request used the opportunity to officially invite the Aláàfin of Oyo to the forthcoming 2025 International Museum Day and the letter of invite was presented to Kabiyesi.
In response, the Alaafin of Oyo said he has been looking forward to coming to the palace Museum.
He then promised to visit the Museum soon to see how it can be giving optimal face lift.
Earlier, the National Museum, Aafin Oyo gifted His Imperial Majesty Sèkèrè and Sàngó statue presented by the Curator, Mrs Oyeronke Afolayan.

Sèkèrè and Sàngó statue have historical and Trado – cultural significant to the Alaafin of Oyo.


Sèkèrè is a cultural treasure, serves as a symbol of royal lineage, spiritual power, and cultural heritage.
Aláàfin of Oyo then danced to the rythm of Sèkèrè when beaten.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports that His Imperial Majesty, Ọba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I was officially coronated as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo on the 5th of April 2025.
Ọba Owoade, who is deeply committed to preserving Yoruba culture and heritage and has consistently advocated for the promotion of Yoruba language, traditions, and identity. His plans include establishing a cultural museum in Oyo to house Yoruba artefacts, and work with international organizations to repatriate cultural treasures taken during colonial times. His vision seeks to ensure that Yoruba heritage continues to thrive for generations to come.
