The Federal Government, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration, (IOM), has repatriated more than 2,000 Nigerians stranded across Niger Republic, Libya, and Sudan in the first four months of 2025, according to DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS.
According to information gathered from relevant agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA), and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NiDCOM), the majority of returnees were evacuated from Niger and Libya.
A breakdown of the figures revealed that 750 Nigerians were repatriated from Niger, 1,303 from Libya, and 140 from Sudan.
Specifically, 542 citizens returned from Niger and Libya in January, followed by 664 in February from Niger and Libya and another 640 from Sudan, Niger and Libya in March.
In April, 347 individuals were flown back from Libya.
The figures do not include the recent return of 231 Nigerians trafficked to Ghana, who were rescued and brought back home.
In a recent statement by the spokesperson of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, warned citizens, especially youths, about falling victim to fraudulent job offers that promise opportunities abroad.
Nigerians were advised to exercise caution and verify overseas employment offers through official channels.
