‎Highlife Legend, Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo Singer, Mike Ejeagha, Dies At 95

‎Highlife legend, Pa Mike Ejeagha, whose old song, Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo went viral after being revived last year, died in Enugu on Friday night.

‎He was known for transforming Igbo folklore and proverbs into captivating music.

‎His eldest son, Emma Ejeagha said that his father died at about 8 pm at the 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu, following a prolonged illness.

‎Mike Ejeagha was a dominant voice on Nigerian airwaves in the 1980s with his unique style of Igbo folk music that resonated across generations.

‎Skit maker Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie (popularly known as Brain Jotter) brought the resurgence of Ejeagha’s 41-year-old song, Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo. The folk highlife song tells a story of how the tortoise deceived the elephant, rode on it, and used it to pay the dowry of its bride.

‎His comic dance of Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo and videos on TikTok and Instagram had over 9.1 million followers on Facebook and more than five million followers on Instagram.

‎The dance moves became a challenge, with many people creating different versions of it on different social media platforms.
