A yet-to-be-identified naked man was found hanging from a tree in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS learnt from a source who pleaded anonymity on Thursday that the incident happened on Saturday.
The source disclosed that residents of the area had discovered the body hanging from a tree in an undeveloped parcel of land in the new market area of Ilishan.
A photo of the scene sighted by our correspondent showed the man, without clothes, dangling from a rope tied to his neck and the tree, in what was suspected to be a suicide.
Alarmed by the incident, the source explained that residents raised the alarm and alerted the police of the discovery.
The source noted that the body was recovered by police operatives, community leaders, and health officials from the local government.
The source wrote, “On Saturday, June 7, 2025, residents of Ilishan discovered a body hangíng on a tree in an undeveloped plot of land in the New Market area, and they alerted the police to the scene of the incident.
“Upon the arrival of law enforcement agencies, they found the dead body of an unidentified naked male adult hangíng from a tree. However, the community leaders and health officials were contacted for bódy evacuátion.”
A senior police officer who did not want to be mentioned in the press because of a lack of authorisation to speak with the press, disclosed that details of the incident had been forwarded to the police headquarters.
He urged our correspondent to get further details from the command.
“The details have been sent to the command. You can reach out to the command,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, had yet to respond to enquiries when contacted for a reaction to the incident on Thursday.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reported a similar incident in April 2018, that which an unidentified, half-naked man was found hanging from a tree near EFAB Estate, Lokogoma, Abuja by residents of the area.
The deceased, who was wearing only a pair of boxers, was found dangling on a rope tied to the tree and was believed to have committed suicide on Sunday night.
Our correspondent learnt that residents of the area had thronged the scene on hearing about the incident.
