The People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), has reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and postponed its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting earlier scheduled for June 30.
This decision was announced on Wednesday by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, during a press briefing at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, following a closed-door meeting with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Damagum, joined by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other prominent party leaders, described the move as a “difficult but necessary” step that had gained broad support within the party.
“Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been reinstated into the National Working Committee as National Secretary,” Damagum said.
“It was a tough decision, but one that has been accepted by key organs of the party.”
He further noted that rather than holding the NEC meeting on June 30, the party will convene an expanded caucus session to deliberate on the way forward.
“Since INEC has not received formal notice from us, we will hold an expanded Caucus meeting on June 30 instead. A proper NEC meeting will follow after that,” he explained.
