As the 2027 general elections approach, Peter Obi’s prospects within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are increasingly uncertain.
Key political figures within the party have begun to rally around a favoured candidate for the presidential ticket, creating a challenging landscape for Obi.

Obi, along with other prominent politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Minister Rotimi Amaechi, is actively strategizing to influence the ADC leadership in their pursuit of the presidential nomination. They aim to position themselves as contenders against the current president, Bola Tinubu.
However, circumstances appear to be shifting dramatically for Obi, who may be faced with the difficult decision of leaving the coalition formed for the 2023 election due to internal dynamics that indicate a possible preference for another candidate within the party.
The recent resignation of Atiku Abubakar from the People’s Democratic Party has added another layer of complexity to the situation, exacerbating tensions within Obi’s camp.
Atiku’s move suggests a strategic shift as he seeks to secure the ADC’s presidential ticket for himself, leaving Peter Obi contemplating his future within the party.
Insider sources indicate that Obi is preparing to exit the coalition, particularly as Atiku’s ambitions seem to sideline him. With the political landscape rapidly evolving, it’s anticipated that Obi might have to consider contesting under a different party banner.
Meanwhile, the possibility remains that Amaechi could be viewed as a viable candidate for the vice-presidency, contingent upon how the political scenarios develop in the coming months.
Sources revealed that Peter Obi is on his way out of coalition with Atiku looking to get the party ticket ahead of Obi and Amaechi but the former Minister could remain as option of vice president as things unfold.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS sources said: “Indirectly, Peter Obi has dumped ADC and the coalition, his body language has confirmed that because he has pressed many buttons to emerge as the preferred candidate but Atiku is ready to play the last card and has moved to mobilise the political gladiators in the party to support his ambition,” the source revealed.
“Atiku will settle Amaechi as Vice Presidential candidate to avoid another Wike’s disaster. Some party members have leaked the arrangement with intention to work together and achieve their aims in 2027,” he concluded.
