Former leader of Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Prof. Wale Adeniran, has urged Yoruba indigenes to stop attacking President Bola Tinubu, calling for unity and collective support for his administration.
Adeniran, who was unveiled on Sunday as the national leader of a new Yoruba agitation group, Apapo Egbe Omo Yoruba Oodua l’Agbaye, at the Obafemi Awolowo University Staff Club, Ile-Ife, called on the Yoruba to give Tinubu a sense of belonging.
Speaking with DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS, the former Osun State Commissioner for Education said, “I hereby call on all true Yoruba sons and daughters to stop any further attack on the person of President Bola Tinubu. Furthermore, I call on all Yoruba to rally around the President, give him a sense of belonging and let us all work to ensure he gets re-elected in 2027.”
He also appealed to traditional rulers to end internal wrangling, stressing that such disputes ridicule the Yoruba race.
Adeniran said Apapo Egbe Omo Yoruba Oodua l’Agbaye was established to advance the interest of the Yoruba people at home and in the diaspora.
According to him, the group is not a separatist movement but a platform committed to restructuring the country and pushing for a new, people-driven constitution.
Adeniran described the 1999 Constitution as a “military product” that failed to reflect the nation’s diversity.
On insecurity, Adeniran declared the group’s support for the creation of state police, commending Tinubu for backing the initiative.
He called on the National Assembly to amend Sections 214, 215, and 216 of the Constitution to give legal backing to state policing.
Adeniran also tasked governors in Yoruba-speaking states to prioritise the welfare of citizens, especially given the increased federal allocations.
Decrying the neglect of the Yoruba language, the new group demanded that, from 2026, Yoruba be adopted as the sole medium of instruction in all primary schools across Yorubaland and as a compulsory subject in secondary schools.
