BREAKING: Soludo Wins Second Term, Sweeps All 21 LGAs

Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State is poised for re-election after recording a clean sweep in all 21 local government areas of the state in Saturday’s governorship poll, DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports.

‎The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded the collation of results at its headquarters in Awka and is expected to formally declare Soludo winner shortly.

‎Under the Electoral Act, a candidate must secure the majority of votes and at least 25 per cent of the total votes cast in no fewer than two-thirds (14) of the state’s local government areas to be declared winner.

‎By winning in all 21 LGAs, the incumbent governor, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has comfortably met the constitutional requirement.
‎Soludo, first elected in 2021, will complete his first term in March 2026. His re-election means he will serve a second and final term in office.

‎The APGA candidate defeated Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP), and 13 others in the keenly contested race.

‎Although the exercise was largely peaceful across the state, observers raised concerns about alleged vote-buying in some polling units.

‎YIAGA Africa, one of the accredited election observer groups, estimated voter turnout to be between 20.28 and 22.92 per cent.

‎INEC is expected to make an official declaration of the winner any moment from now.
