Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed how obtaining federal approval to repair the Oyo-Iseyin Road took two years when Babajide Fashola served as Minister of Works under the previous administration.
Speaking during a media parley reported by TVC, Governor Makinde explained the reasons why he still pursues road projects despite bureaucratic delays. “When Governor Fashola was the Minister for Works at that time, it took me two years to get approval to fix Oyo to Iseyin Road. We fixed it because it was passing through our agricultural belt.
The people of Oyo State, they don’t care if the road is local government, is state government, is federal government—just, even if it’s a community road, fix the road. Let them go about their economic activities,” he said.
The governor noted that he does not allow opposition party status to prevent engaging federal authorities on behalf of Oyo residents.
Makinde stated that he approaches federal government on the principle of doing what is right for citizens, reminding officials that APC voters also reside in Oyo State and deserve consideration even if not supporting the governor personally.
He cited his recent engagement with President Bola Tinubu on illegal mining, submitting a proposal that received presidential approval directing him to work with the Minister of Mineral Resources on developing a model. The governor noted that if successful in Oyo State, the solution could be replicated nationally.
