‎Sunday Sermon: When God Is For You, Enemies Must Turn Back By Pastor Prof. Durodola Olujide Ajani JP

‎ANCHOR TEXT: Psalm 56:9 (KJV)

‎“When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.”

INTRODUCTION

‎Life is a battlefield, not a playground. Every believer, no matter how devoted, will face opposition—spiritual, emotional, relational, or systemic. David penned Psalm 56 during a season of fear and hostility, yet in the midst of pressure, he made a bold declaration of faith. He did not deny the reality of enemies; instead, he affirmed a greater reality—God is for him.

‎This sermon reveals the divine principle that prayer activates divine backing, and where God stands, enemies can not remain.

‎1. PRAYER IS THE BELIEVER’S FIRST RESPONSE

‎“When I cry unto Thee…”

‎David did not cry about his enemies; he cried unto God. This shows priority. Crying unto God represents:

‎Dependence, not self-confidence

‎Faith, not fear

‎Alignment, not agitation

‎Crying here implies intense, heartfelt prayer—calling on God as the final and ultimate authority.

‎📖 “Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee…” (Psalm 50:15)

‎In an age of social media complaints and emotional outbursts, believers must return to the altar of prayer. Victory begins when prayer becomes our reflex.

‎2. DIVINE INTERVENTION FORCES ENEMIES TO RETREAT

‎“…then shall mine enemies turn back.”

‎David did not say I would chase my enemies—he said they shall turn back. This is not human struggle but divine enforcement.

‎When God steps in:

‎Darkness retreats

‎Opposition loses ground

‎Battles end without prolonged struggle

‎📖 “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:14)

‎Spiritual Insight:

‎Enemies don’t retreat because of noise; they retreat because of God’s presence.

‎3. CERTAINTY IS BUILT ON EXPERIENCE WITH GOD

‎“This I know…”

‎This statement reflects settled faith, not emotional optimism. David had history with God:

‎He faced the lion

‎He faced the bear

‎He defeated Goliath

‎Each victory became evidence that God is dependable.

‎📖 “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

‎Application:

‎Remembering God’s past faithfulness strengthens present confidence. Testimonies are faith-builders.

‎4. THE GREATEST ADVANTAGE IN LIFE: GOD IS FOR YOU

‎“…for God is for me.”

‎This is the foundation of the entire verse. David understood covenant reality:

‎God is not neutral

‎God is not distant

‎God is actively involved

‎📖 “If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

‎Truth:

‎When God is for you:

‎Opposition may arise but can not prevail

‎Delays may occur, but denial is impossible

‎Attacks may come, but victory is guaranteed

‎CONCLUSION

‎Psalm 56:9 teaches us that victory is not in fighting harder but in crying unto God. When prayer becomes sincere, divine backing becomes certain. And when God is for you, enemies—no matter how many or how fierce—must turn back.

‎You may not control the presence of enemies, but you can control your response. Cry unto God, and let heaven handle the rest.

‎CALL TO ACTION

‎Wherever you are reading this message, pause and declare:

‎> “Lord, I cry unto You today. Arise for my sake. Let every opposition turn back, for I know You are for me.”

‎PROPHETIC DECLARATION

‎I declare by the authority of God’s Word:

‎As you cry unto the Lord, every enemy contending with your destiny shall turn back. You will know, experience, and testify that God is for you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
