Bizzare: ‘Battered’ Wife Of Suspended Cross River Lawmaker Publicly Apologises To Him Amid Domestic Violence Row

The wife of a Cross River State lawmaker who was recently suspended amid allegations of domestic violence has issued a surprising public apology to her husband and extended family, asking the public to disregard earlier claims against the legislator.

Hon. Dickson Ovat Agbor, the member representing Obubra I State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, was indefinitely suspended by his colleagues on Thursday following public allegations that he physically assaulted his wife. The Assembly described the conduct as “unbecoming of a lawmaker” and set up a committee to investigate the matter further.

In an unexpected twist, Mrs. Glory Agbor took to social media on Thursday to deny the battering claims that had circulated online.

In her statement, she acknowledged that disagreements occurred within the marriage but asserted that the issues were “amicably resolved” and should remain private.

She also announced her resignation from the Legislators’ Wives Association.

Mrs. Agbor said several individuals had misled her into making public comments about the matter and urged the public to “please leave my family alone.” She tendered a public apology to her husband, Hon. Agbor, and her extended family over what she described as “misconceptions” against him, and said the situation would not recur.

The suspension by the House follows growing public scrutiny and social media debates over the domestic violence allegations.

The Assembly’s decision underscores a strong stance against conduct that may bring the legislature into disrepute, even as the wife’s statement seeks to quiet public speculation.
