*Diocese of Kubwa Synod Tasks INEC On Free, Fair, Credible Polls In 2027
In view of the increasing spate of corruption and maladministration in Nigeria’s polity, Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Kubwa in Abuja Archdiocese rising from her 14th Annual Diocesan Synod, has urged Nigerian Christians especially Methodists to assist the political class to establish righteousness in governance with the fear of God and fair play for the good of the nation.
The premier Church noted that since “righteousness exalts a nation, sin is a reproach”, the nation cannot have a headway if corruption is allowed to be the order of the day.
The communique signed by the trio of Right Reverend Dr Frederick Agada Gabriel Onoja DCF, the Diocesan Bishop; Elder James Uchechukwu Duru FCA, the Lay President and Very Rev. Dr Samuel Jephthah Friday DCF, the Synod Secretary also urged all Nigerians to do away with voter apathy and participate fully in the forthcoming general elections in 2027 to elect godly leaders of their choice noting that “the era of let them do it as they like has passed.”

“Christians are urged to ensure they participate fully and vote in the forthcoming General elections on January 16th 2027 for Presidential and National Assembly elections and February 6th 2027 for the Governorship and State assembly elections. Sitting down and complain and folding our arms cannot help us to have a decent society, we must participate by voting.
”On the Part of INEC, the Church advocates for transparency in our election processes no matter the method adopted – whether through INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV) or the use of Form EC8A, what all Nigerians need is a system that will guarantee peaceful, free, fair and credible elections where votes will count,” the communique emphasized.
”Synod kicked against the recent development of droves and decamping of elected officials/Politicians to the ruling party and by implication the country tilting towards a One Party state which is not conducive for our nascent democracy; this political harlotry must stop as it undermines our democracy as it shows lack of political ideology. “Opposition parties are therefore charged to brace up and play their role for the betterment of the country and her citizenry.”

“On Economic and social crisis, Synod noted that while the much taunted economic reforms appear on paper to be good, the reality is glaring as it does not bring succour to the lives of average Nigerian who are daily confronted with economic and galloping inflation challenges, Synod then urged Government to listen to the cries and complaints of the citizens and as a matter of urgency consider palliatives to assist the suffering masses,” it added.

On the deplorable security situation in Nigeria, Methodist Church Nigeria wants Nigerians to turn to God in prayer since all the knowledge, wisdom and artistry of government and her official have failed in tackling the problem.
“Synod mandates all Christians across the country to continue to pray, trusting God for His promise to do a new thing in Nigeria by restoring peace and stability in our polity as He is a God that does whatever He says He will do.
”Synod decried the heights of insecurity in Nigeria as well as impact of insurgency, particularly from Boko Haram, ISWAP and related groups; the resurgence of violent attacks, especially in the Northern parts of the country with the recent killings of army General and the recent incident of kidnapping of ‘innocent’ students on their way to write their JAMB UTME exams in Benue state and called for a decisive action by the Government.”
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports that the kidnapped students were rescued the same day the communique was issued.

The Synod, being the highest policy making body of the Diocese, was presided over by the Methodist Bishop of Kubwa, Right Reverend Dr. Frederick Agada Gabriel Onoja DCF. The Bishop was joined by by the Archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, Most Rev Dr Michael Akinwale; the Bishop of Nyanya, Abuja, Right Reverend J.O.K. Adeyemi, and Kubwa Diocesan Lay President, Elder James Uchechukwu Duru FCTI, FCA, together with Onwa of Oboro Community in Abia State, Chief Chucks Chigbu who was Chairman of the Plenary Session. A seasoned Public health expert, Sir Dr Isaac Egbojah delivered the goodwill message.

The theme of Synod which is also the theme of Methodist Conference for 2026, is “I will fight for you” (Exodus 14:14). The 14th Annual Synod of Diocese of Kubwa was hosted by Bethel Methodist Church Nigeria, Angwandodo, Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja from Thursday April 16th to 19th 2026.
