‎‎Methodist Diocese Of Calabar Celebrates Golden Synod, Urges End To US/Israel – Iran War

‎*** Calls For State Emergency on Calabar- Itu highway, Ikom Highway Neglected For Over 24 Years

‎The United Nations and other World Powers have been tasked to intervene in the prevalent US/Israel – Iran war in order to forestall the emergence of Third World war.

‎Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Calabar in the Archdiocese of Calabar posed the challenge in an 11-point Communique at the end of her Golden Diocesan Annual Synod held at Methodist  Church Nigeria, Wesley Circuit, Wesley  Cathedral, 39 Beecroft Street, Calabar, Calabar South, Cross River State.

‎Jointly signed by the Diocesan Lay President, Sir Dr. Edet Jonah Attih KJW and the Most Revd Chimezuo O. N. Nwankpa, JP, TGF, the Archbishop/Bishop of Calabar, “The Synod condemned in totality the prevalent US/Isreal – Iran war, and called on the United Nations and other World Powers to intervene to forestall the Third World War.”

The Synod also decried the recent cross-carpeting of some politicians from one party to the other, and warned against one party system in our national polity. Synod called on the INEC to conduct free, fair and credible elections to produce popular candidates come 2027 General Elections. Synod also sued for transparency of the Electoral Tribunals for the post election activities.

‎The Synod also joined the calls for the conduct of census in order to know how many we are in Nigeria and cater for the needs of the citizenry.

‎”For proper economic distribution of goods and services in the country, Synod  called on  the Federal Government to direct the National Population Commission to conduct National Population Census with no mean time which the Synod observed was last done 20 years ago.

‎Synod applauded the Cross River State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Bassey Edet Otu on his massive infrastructural development drive across the State, and some of his people-oriented programmes and projects and requested him to declare a State Emergency on Calabar- Itu highway, Ikom Highway which has remained in a poor state in the last 25 years and had brought innocent souls to early graves.

‎The Synod, while commending the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinibu, GCFR on his administrative prowess to uphold the progress and unity of Nigeria, urged him to curb the spate of insecurity in some part of the nation, and cushion the effects of obnoxious economic policies that have brought untold economic hardship on the citizenry.

‎Synod also appealed to the President to mitigate insecurity and  incessant killings of some innocent Nigerians by hoodlums and terrorists by restructuring the security framework of our national security, and ensure that  sophisticated weapons are provided  to combat the menace in our  country, and called for the re-integration and empowerment of  all the released  kidnapped Nigerians captured by the terrorists in some parts of our country.

‎The Synod observed with dismay the unbearing level of corrupt practices, nepotism and fraudulent acts in Nigeria, and called for the EFCC, ICPC and other  related agencies to be strengthened by the Federal Government to fight this anormalies. It also appealed to the government to rehabilitate and strengthen the three refineries and be proactive to ensure that the internal reserve of petroleum is restored so as to help reduce the high cost of transportation for Nigerians, especially in time of global economic crisis.

‎”The Synod observed the continued level of unemployment in the country, and urged the Federal Ministry of Education to monitor for proper implementation of the the inclusion of Skill Trades in our Educational Curriculum to foster and leverage our youths on the global economic   competitiveness and job accessibility. It therefore called on youths and the unemployed members of the public to embrace Skills Acquisition as a veritable tool for global employment. 10.  in Nigeria come 2027.”

‎The Synod also lauded the Prelate, His Eminence, Dr Oliver Ali Aba, JP on his disposition to approve the commencement of Methodist Theological Institute, Ibaka, Akwa Ibom State come September, 2026, adding that the decision is timely and will continually deepen the scope of Ministerial Training  for more Ministers and Pastoral Workers  in the South South region of the Conference Area for effective Evangelism and Soul Winning.

‎The Golden 50th Synod of the Diocese was chaired by The Archbishop and Bishop of Diocese of Calabar, His Grace, the Most Rev’d (Amb.) Chimezuo O. N. Nwankpa, JP, TFG was ably assisted by the Lay President, Sir Dr. Edet Attih, KJW and the Synod Secretary, The Very Rev. Emmanuel Kanu, among other dignitaries. The keynote speaker, Sir Prof. Akamimo Eshiet who spoke glowingly on the 2026 Synod theme which is also the 2026 Conference theme. “I will fight for you, Exodus 14:14.
