‎2027: ‘Obi-mania’ – Over 10 Million Nigerians Joined NDC After Peter Obi’s Defection Says OK Movement

‎The South-West arm of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has claimed that more than 10 million Nigerians registered with the Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC), within 24 hours of the defection of Peter Obi, describing the development as a major shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎Speaking on the political momentum generated by Obi’s move, the South-West Coordinator of the movement, Dr Adefolaseye Adebayo, said the surge in registration reflects growing public confidence in the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s leadership and electoral prospects.

‎According to her, the rapid influx of new members into the NDC signals a broader realignment across party lines, particularly among members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

‎“Within 24 hours of Peter Obi joining the NDC, over 10 million Nigerians have registered with the party,” Adebayo said.

‎She added that a significant number of ADC members had also defected.

‎“They obviously know something. The person who has the capability to win the election is Obi.”

‎The coordinator maintained that Obi’s entry into the NDC has energized political structures nationwide, especially in the South-West, where the movement says grassroots mobilisation has intensified.

‎She argued that the trend could reshape the political landscape if sustained, positioning the NDC as a formidable contender against established parties in the next electoral cycle.

‎The claims come amid heightened political activities and realignments following Obi’s reported defection, with analysts noting that such developments could influence coalition-building efforts and voter sentiment ahead of 2027.

‎However, the NDC leadership has not confirmed the registration figures provided by the movement as at press time.
