Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, has joined the presidential race of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the party’s primaries fixed for May 25.
The development was disclosed in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq.
According to the statement, Duke was cleared alongside two other aspirants — Nnaoke Ufere from Abia State and Yakubu Kingsley from Edo State — to participate in the presidential primary election.
The party stated that the three aspirants had collectively agreed to allow party members decide their fate through the nationwide primary process.
It added that the aspirants demonstrated loyalty to democratic principles and party cohesion by pledging to accept the outcome of the exercise.
“The PRP takes pride in the calibre of its aspirants, whose dedication to democratic principles and commitment to teamwork have further strengthened our party,” the statement said.
The PRP also reiterated its commitment to conducting transparent, credible and fair primaries for over 260 aspirants seeking various elective offices nationwide.
According to the party, the process would be implemented particularly in locations where consensus arrangements are unsuccessful.
The statement further assured members and supporters that fairness and democratic standards would guide the nomination exercise as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
