Family Announces Burial Rites for late Alex Ekubo

The family of actor Alex Ekubo has announced funeral arrangements for the late actor, with burial slated for June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu, Abia State.

Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40. The family said he will be honoured with a series of rites attended by family, friends, colleagues, and fans.

In a statement posted Monday on the actor’s official Instagram page, the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family described him as a man whose life was marked by love, warmth, generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to God and the people he cherished.

The statement was signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke.

The family thanked the public for support received since his passing.

 “The overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, messages, visits, calls, and strength shown to the family during this painful period has been truly humbling”, the statement read.

A service of songs will hold on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Guests are expected to wear white.

A wake keep is scheduled for June 17 at the family residence in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.

The funeral service and interment will take place on June 18 in Arochukwu, followed by a reception at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village.

The family earlier disclosed that Ekubo died at Evercare Hospital following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer, after what they described as a brief but courageous battle with the illness.

Born in Port Harcourt and originally from Arochukwu in Abia State, Ekubo rose to prominence after emerging first runner-up at the 2010 Mr. Nigeria pageant before moving into acting.

He featured in several Nollywood productions includingWeekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.

His death drew tributes from colleagues and fans across social media.
