Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, following a decisive victory in the party’s primary election.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports that the results, announced on Tuesday, showed that Atiku secured 1,846,370 votes to defeat former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, who polled 504,117 votes, while businessman Mohammed Hayatudeen garnered 177,120 votes.
According to figures published by Arise Television on its official X handle, a total of 3,113,599 members were registered for the exercise, while 2,527,977 members participated in the primary.
Atiku’s victory cements his position as the ADC’s standard bearer ahead of the next presidential election, setting the stage for a major political contest as parties intensify preparations for the national polls.
The outcome also highlights the former vice president’s strong influence within the opposition bloc, with his commanding margin underscoring broad support across the party’s membership base.
