All arrangements have been made for the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to present his 2026 Appropriation Bill to the state’s House of Assembly today
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS gathered on Friday morning that the governor would appear before the Speaker of the assembly, Martin Amaewhule at the Assembly quarters’ Auditorium, which serves as a temporary sitting accommodation for the lawmakers pending the completion of the ongoing reconstruction of the House of Assembly complex, to present the much-awaited bill.
An excited source from the Government House, who spoke in confidence, confirmed that the governor was gearing up for his budget presentation today.
“Today is the D-Day. That thing you in particular have been looking for will happen today. The governor will present his budget”, he said
Another source from the House of Assembly also confirmed that the lawmakers would sit today.
The source, who spoke in confidence, said the governor would likely appear before them to present his 2026 budget.
He said: “The House is sitting today and the governor will likely appear before the lawmakers to present his 2026 budget”.
It was gathered that the preparations for the presentation of budget has brought reliefs to many stakeholders especially government establishments amd workers, who had expressed fears over their fate without a budget.
The government has been running on a constitutional grace of six months without a budget, which expired at the end of June 30th.
The delay to present a new budget for the state for the 2026 fiscal year was blamed on the crisis between the governor and the House of Assembly.
But with the recent passing the governor’s 2026 to 2028 Mid-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) by the Assembly, the governor got a lifeline to present his budget.
Others believe that the development signalled a new beginning of cordial relationship between the governor and the House of Assembly.
