Gunmen have invaded Government Secondary School (GSS) Olowa in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter insurgency reporter, the assailants abducted four students, the school principal and a National Examinations Council (NECO) ad hoc staff member while students were sitting for their NECO examinations.
Sources told Makama that the attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on July 14, throwing the school into panic as the armed assailants stormed the premises during the ongoing examination.
The sources said the attackers abducted four students alongside the principal of the school and a NECO ad hoc official before fleeing to an unknown destination
Following the incident, a combined security forces launched a search-and-rescue operation and has begun trailing the kidnappers.
Security sources confirmed that one of the abducted students has so far been rescued, while efforts have been intensified to secure the release of the remaining victims.
The joint security team has commenced extensive bush-combing operations, intelligence gathering and surveillance across the area to locate the kidnappers’ hideout and ensure the safe rescue of those still in captivity.
The authorities said operations are continuing to apprehend the perpetrators and restore normalcy, while investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
It would be recalled that on June 10, Gunmen invaded Iluke Bunu in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attackers killed a vice principal and two others while attempting to abduct students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The assailants were met with strong resistant from Nigerian troops which prevented mass Abduction of the students.
