‎… Extension will address succession gaps, allow orderly appointment of successors –Presidency

‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap.

‎Under the new arrangement, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will terminate on June 30, 2028.

‎The extension, which followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is intended to address succession gaps in both services and provide sufficient time for the relevant board to appoint their successors.

‎Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.

‎According to the statement, the President approved the extensions in recognition of the reforms undertaken by the two service chiefs since their appointments.

‎Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for their contributions to institutional reforms in the Correctional and Immigration Services and charged them to consolidate the progress recorded under their leadership.

‎The President’s decision effectively guarantees continuity in the leadership of the two critical agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior for another 18 months, while arrangements are made for an orderly transition.

‎Nwakuche was nominated by Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, with the Senate subsequently confirming his appointment in March 2025.

‎Similarly, Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and received Senate confirmation on March 1 of the same year.

‎The latest presidential approval extends their stay in office beyond their previously scheduled exit dates, allowing both officials additional time to strengthen institutional reforms and sustain ongoing initiatives in their respective services.
