Kaduna Civil Servant Demands N7 Million from Wife Before He Agrees to Divorce

A divorce proceeding between Jamilu Zuntu and Hadiza Aliyu at a Shari’a court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna has raised mixed reactions among people.

Jamilu Zuntu, the civil servant, is demanding the sum of N7 million from his wife, Hadiza Aliyu, to grant her divorce request. He claims that this amount covers expenses he incurred during their marriage, including N2.5 million spent on her education over two and a half years, as well as expenses on clothes and traditional rites.

On the other hand, Hadiza Aliyu is only willing to pay N100,000, which is the dowry paid to her, to dissolve the marriage. She also seeks custody of their two-year-old daughter, citing the father’s inability to provide for her.

The Judge, Isiyaku Abdulrahman, is presiding over the case and has adjourned the matter to February 27 for a ruling after listening to both parties and their arguments.
