What could have easily become the most high profile kidnapping in Imo State was avoided by the absence of Senator Patrick Nwabueze from his country home.
Nwabueze, APC, is the Senator representing imo North, (Okigwe Zone) in the Senate.
While the Senator escaped the gunmen, a Policeman posted to his home was not that lucky. He was gunned down by the gunmen.
The gunmen escaped suspicion when they, allegedly, from reports, concealed their guns, entered Ndubueze’s expansive compound on the pretence that they were there to watch the AFCON Final Match between host Ivory Coast and Nigeria which Nigeria, shockingly, lost by one goal to two.
The gunmen struck as soon as the match ended, but to their disappointment, the Senator was not at home.
Disappointed over their failure to accomplish their mission of abducting the Senator, they killed the Police officer.
Neither the Imo State Police Command, nor the Senator has issued a statement over the incident.Â
