83-year-old General David Jemibewon (Retd), former Minister of Police Affairs, has initiated divorce proceedings against his wife of over 40 years, Mrs. Modupe Jemibewon, who is in her 70s.
The revelation was made by YouTuber Adeola Agoro in a video posted on her account. According to the video, Jemibewon claims in the divorce suit that he was never legally married to Modupe. He also states that he is no longer content with the union.
The couple has been separated for over two years, with Jemibewon’s children reportedly moving him out of their Abuja home. They have lost contact since then, until Modupe was recently served with the divorce papers.
Jemibewon was previously married to Comfort Jemibewon (née Oni), who passed away in 2015 at the age of 70. He took Modupe as a second wife in the 1970s while still married to his first wife, with whom he had five children. Jemibewon and Modupe have one daughter together.
For three decades, Modupe was publicly recognized as Jemibewon’s wife, accompanying him to social events and gaining prominence as a society woman. However, the reason for the sudden breakdown in their relationship remains unclear.
Modupe has reportedly been seeking support from others to persuade Jemibewon to reconsider, but he appears determined in his decision, backed by his children from his first marriage. The children have reportedly had a strained relationship with Modupe from the outset, and she accuses them of manipulating their father.
