The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has inaugurated a 489-member campaign council to drive Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election bid ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
At the launch in Awka on Friday, APGA National Chairman, Sylvester Ezeokenwa, described the event as proof of the party’s dominance in the state.
“There is no real contest in the November 8 election. The people of Anambra have already endorsed Governor Soludo’s candidacy,” he declared, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria.
APGA state chairman, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, said the campaign structure would ensure every electoral ward mobilises for the governor’s support, while the Director-General of the council and Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, emphasised grassroots mobilisation as the key to electoral victory.
Also speaking, Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s National Secretary and former Anambra deputy governor, Emeka Sibudu, said the group backed any effective Igbo governor irrespective of party lines.
“Governor Soludo is doing exceptionally well. Our support encourages him to continue his commendable work,” he noted.
In his response, Soludo said the council symbolised APGA’s renewed unity and strength.
“This 489-member council represents a movement of Anambra’s 8.5 million people. You are apostles of this mission,” the governor stated.
Soludo had earlier been returned unopposed as APGA’s candidate after securing the backing of 3,260 delegates at the party’s primary, retaining his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, as his running mate.
