‎Big Stick: UniAbuja Expels 28 Students, Withdraws Certificates Of 15 Former Students

‎The Senate of the University of Abuja has expelled 28 students and revoked the academic certificates of 15 former students following findings of serious misconduct.

‎The disciplinary actions were approved at the institution’s 191st Regular Senate Meeting, according to a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob.

‎The offences cited include cult-related activities, examination malpractice, possession of and involvement with hard drugs, assault, burglary, theft, and falsification of ‘O’ Level results used for university admission. These breaches were detailed in a report submitted by the Student Disciplinary Committee for consideration by the Senate.

‎In addition to the expulsions, the university withdrew the certificates of 15 former students who reportedly failed to respond to repeated invitations by the disciplinary panel — a development signaling the seriousness with which the institution is tackling violations of its conduct code.

‎Nine students under review were cleared of wrongdoing and exonerated, while 33 others were issued formal warnings for offences including hostel racketeering, conspiracy, and fighting.

‎Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, reiterated the university’s commitment to upholding academic integrity and campus safety, underlining that its regulatory framework would be enforced without compromise.

‎He said the institution would also strengthen student engagement, counseling and orientation programmes to promote responsible behaviour and reduce future infractions.
