The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will soon get no less than nine Permanent Secretaries to fill up its nine Secretariats.
This is as arrangements are on top gear for commencement of the newly established FCT Civil Service Commission.
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, dropped this news on Monday, while speaking to newsmen after inspection of on-going projects in Abuja.
Wike explained that the development was in line with the provisions of the FCT Civil Service Commission Act of 2018, which President Bola Tinubu had recently approved for implementation.
According to him, most senior directors in the FCT Administration would be appointed as Permanent Secretaries for the Administration’s Secretariats, namely Agriculture and Rural Development, Transportation, as well as the Economic Planning, Revenue Generation and Public Private Partnership.
Others are Education, Social Development, Legal Services, Area Council Services, Health and Environment, and Women Affairs Secretariats.
Meeting with all the senior directors, he informed them of the development and tasked them on dedication to duty.
His words: “President Tinubu in his wisdom and Renewed Hope Agenda, insisted that the 2018 Act must be implemented, which has given the FCT a Civil Service Commission.”
“By this, the FCTA will have its own Head of Service, and then of course, it will have Permanent Secretaries for the nine Secretariats. But again, that means that we will require a lot of commitments from them,” he said.
Wike reiterated displeasure over delays in moving files, warning those in the habit of not passing files on time against it; saying the delays amounted to sabotage of the Administration’s efforts.
“It is better to let them (directors) know that if Mr. President has done this for you, you should also be able to reciprocate by committing yourselves to work harder,” the Minister said.
“We have told them that no file will stay in a director’s office for more than three to four days, so that the work can move on, and they have agreed to that”, he added.
Wike revealed that he had approved the promotion of over 8,000 workers; adding that the beneficiaries should pay back by putting in more effort and commitment to their jobs.
