Four Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), further weakening the opposition’s grip in the Senate.
The defectors are Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North East), Ekong Sampson (Akwa Ibom South), Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), and Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi (Osun Central).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read their letters of defection during plenary, signalling the latest wave of political realignments within the National Assembly.
Present in the chamber to witness the defection were APC national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; Senator Chris Ngige; and Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, the member representing Ogbomoso North, South, and Orire Federal Constituency, among others.
