BREAKING: Jubilation, Celebration Galore As Adamawa Workers Receive Alerts Of N70,000 Minimum Wage

Excitement and celebration swept through Adamawa State as workers began receiving alerts of the new N70,000 minimum wage in their bank accounts.

It would be recalled that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had signed the new Minimum Wage bill into law a few weeks ago.

This was after back and forth with the organised labour including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC)

However, many governors have said they can not pay N70,000 minimum wage as a result of economic reality.

Meanwhile, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State during his meeting with the Labour Union on August 19, 2024 promised to start paying the N70,000 minimum wage this month.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, revealed this in an interview with newsmen shortly after he led labour leaders to a meeting with Governor Umaru Fintiri.

He stated that state government workers would receive salaries with the new minimum wage starting in August 2024, while their counterparts at the local government level would begin benefiting in September.

The governor fulfilled the promise as workers confirmed they had received their salaries.

A cross-section of civil servants, in interviews after receiving their August salaries, commended Governor Fintiri for keeping his promise to the workers.

Saliyatu Mohammad, a civil servant with the Ministry of Land and Survey, expressed her satisfaction, stating that Governor Fintiri had demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the workers with this gesture.

Mr. Emmanuel Amos Tumba, a school teacher, confirmed the salary increase, saying, “I can confirm to you that the salary increase has been effected and I received it. I commend the governor for this.”

The implementation of the new minimum wage has been hailed as a significant achievement for the Fintiri administration, which has been nicknamed the “Fresh Air Government” by its supporters.
