The organised Labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress has declared an indefinite strike beginning from June 3rd 2024.
The strike, the organised Labour said became necessary as the Federal Government appears recalcitrant to up the N60,000 it offered at the resumption of the tripartite committee meeting in Abuja on Friday.
The strike was declared at a joint press conference involving the NLC President, Joe Ajaero and TUC President, Festus Osifo.
Osifo said, “As you are aware we had the last meeting that preceded today which was on Tuesday, in that meeting they (government) offered N60,000, they invited us for a meeting today (Friday) and we deliberated on it thinking they were having the necessary commitment.
“To our surprise there was no serious representation both from the Federal Government, or from the state governors who are supposed to be part of the negotiations.
“So technically we felt they have abandoned us, because they still remained adamant on the N60,000. Even a kobo was not added to what we rightfully rejected”.
“To this end, we are declaring a nationwide strike from Monday June 3rd, 2024 which shall be indefinite. We are united on this and we believe this is the way forward”.
