BREAKING: Labour Party Suspends Abure, National Secretary For Six Months

The Labour Party National Caretaker Committee (LP-NCC), under the leadership of Senator Nenadi Usman, has announced the suspension of factional National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, and National Secretary, Farouk Umar, for a period of six months.

DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports that the announcement, made in a statement released late Thursday and jointly signed by Senator Usman and the committee’s Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, followed recommendations from a disciplinary panel led by Senator Ireti Kingibe.

According to the statement, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party ratified the decision after receiving the investigative report from the committee chaired by Senator Kingibe and co-chaired by High Chief Peter Ameh.

The report cited serious cases of financial misappropriation and anti-party activities committed by Abure and his associates.

The LP-NCC said: “Following an in-depth investigation, the NEC has ratified the committee’s recommendations regarding anti-party activities and gross misappropriation of party funds by the former acting National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, and others.

The findings revealed significant financial misconduct which led to the following disciplinary actions:

Julius Abure has been suspended for six months and barred from presenting himself as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

Farouk Umar, the former National Secretary, was found to have co-signed most of the questionable bank withdrawals and transfers alongside Abure, and has also been suspended for six months pending further inquiry.

All members of Abure’s National Working Committee (NWC) have been instructed to cease acting as representatives of the Labour Party’s NWC.

The NEC warned that any disregard of the disciplinary directives would attract even more severe consequences.

The party stressed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and discipline in its internal operations.

This development follows recent actions by the Abure-led faction, which had earlier announced the suspension of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Senator Ireti Kingibe, and four others over alleged anti-party activities—a move now seen in political circles as a retaliatory power struggle within the party.
