The federal government has initiated the payment of the new minimum wage to civil servants on its payroll, starting Thursday, September 26.
Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, confirmed this in an interview on Thursday, assuring that workers will begin receiving alerts for their new salary payments from that day.
It is important to note that, just two days prior, the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission announced that the implementation of the new minimum wage would actually commence in July 2024.
NSIWC Chairman Ekpo Nta made this announcement during a press briefing in Abuja, explaining that the July date aligns with the President’s approval of the bill following its passage by the National Assembly.
