‎Cleric Calls for Christian Revival, Prayers for Nigeria Ahead of 2027 Elections

‎Christians across Nigeria and all very the world have been urged to embrace the Lenten season as a period of deep repentance, spiritual renewal, and intensified prayers for the nation, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎Delivering a Sunday message on Lent, the Resident Minister of Triumphant Methodist Church Nigeria, Abuja, The Rev. Uruakpa Onyemaechi Charles, described the season as “a divine opportunity for national transformation through personal revival.”

‎Speaking during the Sunday service, the cleric said Lent should not be reduced to routine fasting, but must reflect genuine repentance and moral redirection among believers.

‎Quoting Joel 2:12–13, he said, “Return to God with all your heart. Rend your hearts and not your garments. God is calling for sincerity, not ceremony.”

‎Call for National Reflection

‎The Rev. Charles, who is also the Conference Protocol Officer (Abuja Liaison), noted that Nigeria is passing through what he described as a “wilderness moment,” marked by economic challenges, insecurity, youth frustration, and leadership concerns. However, he maintained that such periods could serve as preparation for national restoration if accompanied by prayer and righteousness.

‎He cited 2 Chronicles 7:14, stressing that national healing is tied to humility and prayer. “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray… then I will heal their land. Nigeria’s healing begins with the Church,” he said.

‎Focus on 2027 Elections

‎With political activities gradually building toward the 2027 elections, the cleric called on Christians to reject corruption, vote-buying, and divisive politics. He urged believers to pray for peaceful and credible elections and for leaders who would prioritise service above self-interest.

‎“Servant leadership remains the highest form of leadership. We must demand integrity, accountability, and competence,” he stated.

‎He further declared prayers for peace and stability, expressing confidence that Nigeria would overcome its present challenges.

‎Lent as a Season of Transformation

‎The Rev. Charles, an author, digital creator, and media consultant known for his revival-focused teachings and advocacy for spiritual renewal, ethical governance, and nation-building explained that Lent commemorates the forty days Jesus Christ spent fasting in the wilderness, noting that spiritual authority follows discipline and obedience.

‎“Fasting without repentance is ineffective. Prayer without obedience yields little fruit. This season must produce genuine change in our homes, businesses, and public conduct,” he said.

‎He encouraged Christians to forgive offenses, restore broken relationships, uphold ethical standards, and strengthen family devotion during the period.

‎Prayers for Nigeria

‎The minister led prayers for: National peace and security

‎Transparent democratic processes

‎God-fearing and competent leaders

‎Youth empowerment and hope

‎Unity within the Church

‎He expressed optimism that the season would mark a turning point for many believers and for the nation.

‎“Darkness does not have the final word. Lent leads to Easter. Sacrifice leads to resurrection,” he said.

‎The cleric concluded by urging Christians nationwide and in the diaspora to commit Nigeria’s future into God’s hands during the 40-day Lenten observance.
