Insecurity has escalated in the border communities of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State, after two decomposing bodies were discovered.
The victims are believed to be residents of Nimbo community who were abducted on Easter Monday by suspected herdsmen.
According to local sources, the abductors had earlier released the women who were kidnapped alongside the two men, raising concerns about the attackers’ motives.
It was learnt on Thursday that the remains were recovered on Wednesday in a bush along the Adani-Opanda Road by local Neighbourhood Watch operatives and community youths during a search and rescue operation.
According to local sources, the abductors had earlier released the women who were kidnapped alongside the two men, raising concerns about the attackers’ motives.
“The kidnappers freed all the women abducted in the same incident but killed the two males among them,” a source said.
The incident has heightened fears among residents, especially in light of Nimbo community’s troubled past with violence.
In April 2016, at least nine people were brutally killed by suspected herdsmen in a massacre that shocked the state.
Community sources told DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS that the latest victims have been identified as Ejike Ngana, a well-known driver in Nsukka town, and Emma Ezenweze—both natives of Nimbo.
They were reportedly abducted on Easter Monday while travelling along the Adani-Opanda Road.
According to one of the sources, the kidnappers released the women who were taken alongside the two men, raising fresh concerns about the motives behind the attack.
Meanwhile, in a related development, two of the eight people kidnapped in Ohebe Orba, Udenu Local Government Area, have been released after ransom payments were made.
A family source said, “One of the victims popularly known as Big Head was freed on holy Saturday after parting with N5 million ransom, while the second victim, Ogochukwu Agboeze, returned on Easter Day following the contribution of N5 million by members of her community to secure her freedom.”
It was gathered that the priestess, who was reportedly escorting some suspected internet fraudsters to a river for rituals, remains in captivity along with her clients as of Thursday morning.
Residents of Ohebe Orba have called for heightened security surveillance in the area. They are urging authorities to take swift action to ensure the safe release of those still being held hostage.
“Fear has gripped the residents of Ohebe Orba as the community hasn’t witnessed this ugly development in their land for the first time,” a source said.
This incident highlights the growing concern over kidnapping in Enugu State, where multiple incidents have been reported in recent times.
In a similar incident on March 24, 2025, suspected kidnappers ambushed the Ugwogo-Neke-Ikem Road, killing two individuals and abducting others.
The police have intensified efforts to tackle kidnapping in the region, including a significant operation in which they raided the notorious “Malaysian Forest”—a known haven for kidnappers—where they uncovered a shallow grave containing the remains of a victim.
