Top officials have said that should the long-awaited FIFA verdict on the Super Eagles World Cup petition go against Nigeria, they will escalate the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports.
Nigeria have asked FIFA to throw DR Congo out of the 2026 World Cup for fielding several ineligible players in a final Playoffs in Rabat, Morocco, in November.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, disclosed that CAS would be a viable option for both Nigeria and DRC in the event either country are unhappy with the final decision of world football governing body FIFA.
“If Nigeria wins the petition, DR Congo would approach CAS, and if the decision goes against the other way, Nigeria may also seek redress at CAS. It is still a long process,” Shehu Dikko told The Guardian.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS has already reported that FIFA will deliver their verdict on this World Cup saga next month in time for the Intercontinental Playoffs in Mexico in March.
