Nigerian rulers are some of the most unthinking beings nature has foisted on humanity.
Imagine an Oyo State Government renaming a whole The Polytechnic Ibadan after the Late Omololu Olunloyo. Haba! Haba!!!
Yes, Olunloyo was the school’s first rector and a three-month governor of Oyo State; and so what? Didn’t he get paid for doing his job while his appointments lasted?
Governor Makinde’s daughter attended Yale, and he also attended MIT at some point in his educational pursuit. Pray, how would he feel if any of these institutions were renamed after a politician or anyone whatsoever?
So, a chair can’t be endowed, or a functional hall for an academic discipline can’t be built to keep Olunloyo’s memory alive, since that is so important to the Oyo government?
Nigerian politicians do everything to obliterate nationally shared values, renaming everything still and moving after themselves or their cronies, dealing a terrifying blow to history and whatever it portends for the people.
Imagine your diploma certificate reading Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic. Wawu!
