A pro-Jonathan political pressure group, Bring Back Our Goodluck (BBOG), has asserted that opposition leaders Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso do not possess the political capacity to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday in Kano, the National Coordinator of BBOG, Dr. Grema Kyari, maintained that unless opposition heavyweights unite behind a single presidential candidate, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will remain unbeatable.
Kyari faulted what he described as the “self-centered ambitions” of leading opposition figures, stressing that their failure to form a formidable alliance—similar to the coalition that produced the APC in 2013—would only ensure APC’s continued grip on power.
The BBOG coordinator urged Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and other political stakeholders to put aside personal ambitions and rally support for former President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to Kyari, Jonathan remains the only credible candidate with the required experience, national spread, and political appeal to dislodge APC from power in 2027.
“Until and unless Atiku, Obi, Amaechi, Kwankwaso and others jettison their selfish interests and support a competent and neutral candidate, the votes will be split again in 2027 in favour of the APC,” Kyari warned.
He pointed to the 2023 general elections as an example, noting that the division of votes among Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso paved the way for Tinubu’s victory. He insisted that the same political error must not be repeated in 2027.
Kyari further appealed to Jonathan to listen to what he described as the “voice of the masses” urging him to return and complete his second term in office.
“We are calling on Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, Amaechi, Senator David Mark, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rauf Aregbesola, among others, to unite and support the comeback of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2027 to end bad governance in Nigeria,” he declared.
The BBOG convener lamented Nigeria’s current economic and security challenges, describing worsening hunger, collapsing businesses, deepening poverty, and escalating insecurity as evidence of failure under the APC-led administration.
“Nigeria is bleeding economically, socially, and politically. Under Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, hardship has intensified, insecurity has worsened, and divisions have grown. Nigerians are crying out for a leader who understands the weight of power, not one experimenting with our destiny,” Kyari said.
Drawing parallels from global politics, Kyari noted that just as the United States saw the return of Donald Trump and Ghana reinstated John Mahama, Nigerians should equally bring back Jonathan in 2027 to “rescue the nation.”
