Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), has redeployed its Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC), in Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke.
The redeployment came amid petitions to the electoral umpire’s chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan over alleged partisanship.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports that All Progressives Congress, (APC), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP), demanded for Agboke’s redeployment ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
A coalition under the aegis of Osun Democrats for Democracy (ODD) on Wednesday rejected calls and expressed confidence in the leadership of INEC in the state, noting that the commission has demonstrated neutrality in its preparations for the August 15 governorship poll.
The REC confirmed his redeployment to Ondo State. In a terse message he shared with his official phone number on WhatsApp platform he created for newsmen in Osun State, the REC said: “Good evening all. I have been transferred to Ondo state. I thank you most sincerely for the support given to me throughout my stay here in Osun state. May God Almighty support you all as well.”
