Chadian security forces successfully repelled an attack on the presidential palace in N’Djamena by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Wednesday night.
The forces killed several attackers and arrested others during the operation.
Footage circulating on social media shows members of the terrorist group under heavy fire from Chad’s Directorate General of Security Services and Internal Exile.
A counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, reported that the attack was swiftly contained, with the situation brought under control.
He stated, “DGSSIE forces successfully neutralized several Boko Haram attackers following an assault on the presidential palace in N’Djamena, Chad, on Wednesday. Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the DGSSIE demonstrated efficiency in neutralizing the threat, ensuring the safety of government institutions and key personnel.”
While authorities have not disclosed specific casualty details, reports suggest that several attackers were captured alive, offering the potential for critical intelligence in future counterterrorism efforts. Security measures had already been heightened in the days leading up to the attack, including the government shutting down communication networks to prevent breaches.
On Thursday, CNN reported that 18 assailants were killed and six taken into custody, with one soldier killed and three wounded during the confrontation
The report added that the attack occurred while President Mahamat Deby Itno was inside the palace, though authorities quickly restored order.
CNN also reported that the incident coincided with a visit by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who congratulated President Deby Itno on reestablishing constitutional order.
Foreign Affairs Minister Abderaman Koulamallah, in a live Facebook broadcast from the palace, reassured citizens that the situation was “completely under control.
