Old leadership under Ralph Nwosu remains listed on official records.
Crisis threatens ADC’s unity as 2027 election preparations intensify.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to recognise the newly constituted caretaker committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Senate President David Mark, deepening the party’s leadership crisis.
DECENCY GLOBAL NEWS reports that despite a resolution by the ADC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to dissolve the National Working Committee (NWC) and appoint an interim leadership, INEC’s records still list Ralph Okey Nwosu as National Chairman, alongside other executives including Said Baba Abdullahi (National Secretary), Cavin Alagoa (National Treasurer), Ifeyimwa Ntima (National Financial Secretary) and Ujunwa L. Onwuasoeze (National Legal Adviser). The party’s headquarters remains listed at “No. 1 Capital Plaza, Nyanyan-Kuru Road, Abuja.”
The crisis began in July 2025 when Nwosu and his team resigned, prompting the NEC to install a caretaker committee comprising David Mark as Chairman, Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, and Bolaji Abdullahi as Interim Publicity Secretary. Six deputy national chairmen were also appointed across geopolitical zones.
At the party’s 99th NEC meeting, which INEC representatives reportedly attended, two motions were passed: reinstating previously suspended members (excluding Ibe Kachikwu) and dissolving the old NWC to pave the way for the Mark-led team.
Following the meeting, the caretaker committee engaged all 37 state chairmen and the FCT leadership in Abuja, outlining strategies to rebuild party structures and strengthen alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Rejects ADC
However, INEC insists no changes have been effected. “The old exco is still in charge as of today,” Rotimi Lawrence, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, told The Guardian.
