JUST IN: More Trouble For Rivers Gov Fubara As Abuja Court Denies His Loyalists Bail

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed the bail applications filed by the loyalists of the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, linked with the state assembly explosion.

The defendants; are Chime Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod.

The police had instituted terrorism-related charges against them following their alleged role in the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly in October 2023.

They were also accused of killing some police officers.

On October 30, 2023, an explosion rocked the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.

The incident came amid alleged moves by some lawmakers to impeach Fubara. It was gathered that some suspected arsonists threw an explosive into the complex around 9:25pm, causing a fire in the building.

However, the first to third defendants applied for bail, citing health conditions.

Ruling on the application on Monday in Abuja, Justice Bolaji Olajuwon rejected the applications.

She held that the defendants were charged with a capital offence, which bothered on terrorism and alleged murder.

Olajuwon added that there was no evidence to the fact that the facilities at the correctional centre cannot meet the health needs of the defendants.

She added that the evidence before the court showed that experts at the health centre were capable and well-equipped to manage the condition of the defendants.

The case was subsequently adjourned till February 8, 2024, for hearing.
